Though Mr. Noviandri somehow has once proposed an idea to the naive Freshman Students of ITB’s 2007 class to try to create gold in his quantum chemistry session, still we can not deny to not be able to afford it, yet at least find the least budget-consuming method(s) to do it for the time being. Gold remains one of the most highly-recommended noble metal to be investations, especially due to its stability in the market(Check this, this, and this out to find more ways of investing your asset in gold).

Speaking about investing and economical act, I remember one of special cases in the field of stochastic process study occuring in the European stock market I previously dealt with. It was really interesting, and the conclusion withdrawn was that the price of the option we’ll have to take will (ideally) depend on the stock price and time interval involved. The statement is summarized in the Nobel-winner Black-Scholes Equation resulting in exponential factor as the solution.

Later on we found out that the exponential factor coherently correlated with the dynamics of the system. Further conclusion included that in non linear system, even if the equation is just slightly changed, the final outcome can differ extremely.(Further discussion on this, please do not hesitate to contact me via comment on this post).

Tell you what, this is a true story. So there was a girl, say her name was Cinta. She found out that her core self esteem(I mean it as her self-life centre… you know, some sort of your happiness source in this damn intriguing world) evolves around academic life; the formula is

I’m happy if and only if my grades are good.

…while so unfortunate it was since she was entering science department in high school while she didn’t even have strong foundation in comprehending mathematics.

… To say it severely further, she chose to enter physics major in college… while you see, with such condition, she couldn’t even afford it to pass basic geometry(or conceptual algebra) exam there!

…The conclusion WAS defined: she was NEVER so happy about herself.

If only she didn’t finally found that grip- to understand this beautiful language called maths-well, maybe… you will only find her tomb by now:(. For for her, good grades are her milestone to be independent… she would rather die than, live in disgrace by not being as strong and equal as everyone else in her standard.

Silly as it probably may sound, people like Cinta exist, those who praise and fully appreciate science and all of high achievement in (its) academic field. It is likely that nowadays, academic title is one safe(st) way for average people to have a better, independent life, a life that will make us human to be more respected and relatively, comfortable(I am not going to review more about this particular social phenomenon, but YES, IT IS). Well for people like Cinta, she couldn’t afford it if she has the title but she doesn’t understand the essence of the knowledge she bears the title upon.

I understand one of Cinta’s problem (before she found her grip in maths): she was afraid of the language of maths. It was so foreign and therefore scary for her, to say further that she was not get used to it. It is different from English or Deutsch. It says a lot of things in just simple symbols;you can not just swallow it without contemplation.
… And when it comes to exams, there you will die:p.

If you happen to know someone like Cinta, I suggest these steps to conquer the problem:
1. Think simple. Complicated problems are accumulation of the simple ones; Remember this wise proverb:

non-linearity are (advanced) linearity problems with additional terms, algebra is just accumulation of simple adding and substracting operations with additional rules.

2. Comprehend the basic concepts. I recommend you to check this, this, this or this out, for example.

3. Be bold to try to interpret the formulas in your own language. Remember that if anything you read only give several condition, thus only those condition apply for all both direct and indirect problems you’ll find in the current or previous chapter.

I hope that no more old Cinta exist:). Let’s be the other new her!

A little update on my class, specifically from my Scientific Communication class(the lecturer happens to be Mr. Daniel).

I personally LOVE this subject. It’s about how to present your scientific paper and ideas in public properly, and even in some occasion we can find ourselves in attempt to raise funds for our further research. Well, to make it short one must:

1. be able to speak fluently(and as possibly pop) about our research in English;

fluently-because we do need international fund sponsors to broaden our horizon and since those so-called international fellows only understand English;
pop-since we have to make our presentation content easily-understood so that people can realize its importance,

2. has a high-professionality in the display detail of the presentation;

common scientific presentations requires the display of our paper’s posters, which tell the whole audience semi-completely(since the content is not complete) about our scientific research. This posters include abstracts, problems, fundamental theory, results, discussion, and conclusions.

Posters can be very useful tools to attract the audiences to come to our presentation. So, make sure that our poster is approximately perfect:D

The question is,

WHERE TO DISPLAY SUCH ALREADY-HIGH QUALITY POSTERS?

… As a future-scientist wanna be, I will be REALLY close to such magnificent display tools.

Don’t forget to take a look these awesome table top display, too.Oh, and this also makes me fall in love with.

Hm, the glimmering horizon of a scientist’ future, maybe, surely start from this class of Mr. Daniel:).

A chapter, a task, a homework…and progressing on two more tasks. So happy with my progress so far and think that I should congratulate and appreciate myself more. So now I’m going to install the emulator of Harvest Moon on my PC, yippee:D

Tak terasa sudah hampir… 21 tahun berada di sini. Kurang lebih 40 hari-an lagi, genaplah angka itu sudah.

Dulu betapa setiap hari serasa bagai penjara. Tawa (yang ditampilkan) tak pernah bisa menjadi obat bagi duka yang (sempat) dirasakan, yang ada hanyalah jambangan. Jambangan kesedihan.

Namun kejayaan sedikit demi sedikit masih bisa membayangi. Nilai lumayan, piala bertaburan. Setelah tiga tahun, menyongsong masa SMA dengan bersemangat.

Di SMA hidup mulai menampakkan warnanya. Meski masih dirasanya, ada yang hambar. Perasaan yang anehnya, tak kunjung hilang.

Di tanah orang merdeka, hidup tak pernah lagi sama. Akhirnya dia mulai tahu bahwa kesetimbangan yang dicapai sebuah sistem memang hanya memerlukan energi seminimum mungkin, untuk dapat dikatakan bahwa mencapai hal seperti itu mudah.

Untuk mencapai kesetimbangan di level yang lebih tinggi tidak mudah. Dengan terseok-seok dikejarnya harapan itu, meski hampir buta seluruh indranya, memilih untuk tetap percaya.
Bahwa keajaiban itu niscaya.

… Dan akhirnya, Ramadhan 2009 menyapanya. Di jalan sepi.

Harapan dan target yang muncul adalah

bahwa semoga apa yang direncanakannya tercapai dengan sukses. Amin.

Yang namanya kerja keras, bahkan untuk sesuatu yang kita cintai, rasanya tidak selalu manis. Yang saya rasakan, kebanyakan, malah pahitnya. Hmm… dulu jadi inget kalau saya pernah posting ini… ternyata kalau terlalu lama kaya gitu tidak enak juga untuk badan, terutama untuk otak(bagian kiri! seriously…), tengkuk, bahu, dan mata. Jadi, hiduplah secara proporsional sajaa… kalau ngantuk yaa tidur dulu lah, jangan maksain belajar, toh jadi lemot…

Anywaayy alert, alert! This is the second day of 2009 Ramadhan! Yippeee bentar lagii libur kuliah doong(ha ha ha dasar maunya refreshing ajaa). Yang jelas, akhir2 ini karena saya benar2 konsentrasi dalam belajar(menurut saya lhoo), jadi sering lapar… tak terkecuali saat puasa seperti ini… akhirnya yang terbayang adalah perasaan benar2 puas karena kemaren sebelum puasa sudah makan-ayam-penyet dengan sukses, hmm untuk buka puasa hari ini apaa yaa?
